Associate Professor, Department of Sociology, Head, Foundation Course N.G. Acharya & D.K. Marathe College, Chembur, Mumbai, India

Dr.SujataWarrier has been working as Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology,N.G.Acharya and D.K.Marathe College, University of Mumbai. She has a long experience of teaching the subjects of Sociology and Foundation Course since last 28 years.She is also a Post Graduate recognised teacher for the Department of Sociology, University of Mumbai. She is preparing herself for Professorship in Sociology. She is also heading the Department of Foundation Course in the college.

Awards:
Dr.SujataWarrier has been honoured with various Awards and recognition.She has been a meritorious student during her educational pursuit. She has been actively involved in creating awareness on the concept of telemedicine and its benefits for the inaccessible areas and the poor among the Doctors and other medical fraternity.She organised a stall for creating awareness on telemedicine with late Dr.Pramod V Niphadkar Mumbai, a well known Lungs and Allergy specialist from Mumbai for which she was honoured with a trophy and appreciation letter from Bronchitis and Asthma Association of India. She has also actively organised health check up camps with Yogi KripaMediChem in her college and other places. She has been honoured with appreciation certificate from Yogi KripaMediChem. She got UGC funding to visit abroad, Luxembourg (Europe) to present her paper on telemedicine. For her special contribution in the Med-e- Tel, she was honoured with a special certificate of 18 credits for creating awareness and continuing medical education among people. She also got ICSSR funding for data collection for doing her Ph. D work.

Research related experiences:

  1. Conducted research on Absenteeismamong Bajaj Auto Workers, Pune in 1984.
  2. Data collection for the research project of Dr.Nair, Department of Anthropology on Ethnocentrism in 1986, Pune University.
  3. During her tenure in college, actively encouraged students to take up survey works to create social awareness and to develop interest in the subject.
  4. As research and researching is her hobby, she also goes out of way in guiding MBA and other MS research projects voluntarily.
  5. Presently she has taken up a Minor Research Project on Gender Based Study of Personal Health among college students in Mumbai, funded by UGC.

Association with Committees/ Trusts and NGOs
Dr.Sujata Warrier has been actively involved with various curricular and co-curricular activities. She has been the Chair Person – Health Centre, Women Development Cell, Add-On-Courses of her college.Also worked as the Staff Secretary of the college. As Convenor of Women’s Wing of World Confederation of Warriers, she is organising many health care camps for the upliftment of the poor.

Outstanding Contributionin Reasearch:
Dr.SujataWarrier’s Doctoral Thesis on “Social Implications and Functions of Information and Communication Technologies in Public Health – A Case Study Based on Karnataka Telemedicine Project” is a pioneering and remarkable work in the subject of Sociology. She completed her Doctorate under the able guidance of Dr. B.V. Bhosale, Head of the department, Sociology, University of Mumbai, who is also an eminent sociologist from Mumbai. It is the first of its kind in the world level. Ministry of Information and Broad Casting had made a personal request to her to contribute an article in their monthly magazine “Yojana” and was published in Marathi language. Her Doctoral Thesis has been kept in NAASDOC, ICSSR Delhi for Archives. This was the only Thesis selected in the year 2015 by NAASDOC for their Archives. Her work is significant in the contemporary context of the debate on Public Health from the usage of ICT. Her topic is relevant and contributory in the discipline of Sociology, which also suggests certain policies. There are hardly any sociological studies in this area of research. Her work is empirical, innovative and needs timely attention by the Government, Scholars, Medical Practitioners and ICT professionals from all over the world. She has made a significant contribution in the field of research in ICT and Sociology. She is a pioneer scholar in showing the intertwining of sociology, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and Public health.
