Dr Farzana Rahman
Dept. of Civil Engineering, University of Asia Pacific, Bangladesh

Dr. Farzana completed her Ph.D. from Saitama University Japan in 2006 about “Development of Traffic Calming Prioritization Process”. She did her M.Sc. in Transportation Planning from Saitama University Japan in 2005. She completed her undergraduate from BUET. Currently she is working as an Associate Professor in the University of Asia Pacific, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Dr. Farzana’s transportation engineering research has been focused within four main areas: 1) to improve road safety analysis and evaluation techniques, 2) to develop and evaluate traffic calming prioritization process, 3) Statistical Modeling to improve the level of knowledge associated with the safety implications of traffic operations and 4) to apply the traffic calming decision making process as a part of traffic safety planning. Choice modeling is one of the major endurances of Dr. Farzana. Her general research emphasis is policy advancement and sustainable transportation planning.

One of her major research aims is to provide tools that would be appropriate in considering the safety consequence of decisions related to the planning and design of roads. Specific aspects include: formal procedures in deciding when improvements such as traffic calming devices are required; tools for deciding where safety improvements are required and for deciding appropriate safety measures; tools for designing safety for new roads; tools for traffic management improvements; service quality of public transportation; and pedestrian safety. The research will also continue to improve the knowledge base for using these tools by developing more practical procedures for estimating the repercussions of decisions. Her current research is firstly on implementation of bus priority lanes in the context of heterogeneous traffic in developing cities and secondly evaluation
of ride sharing service based on customers opinion in Dhaka city. Dr. Farzana has published several peer reviewed journal papers and conference papers.
